When the harpsichordist Andreas Staier started putting together a recital featuring his favorite 17th-century works for the instrument, he discovered that they all shared a theme of melancholy. That isn't to say that these piece are sad, slow or in a minor key.
Throughout this episode, Staier will delve into the notion of melancholy, which dates back to ancient Greece, examining its many many shades.
